23rd of July burger

Yay for recipe time! I made a few changes to Juli Bauer’s 4th of July triple protein burger (from her website paleOMG) and ended up with what I’m calling 23rd of July burgers. The burger is delicious! And very simple too. Well there’s a lot going on with this recipe, but I must be getting better at cooking because I thought it was easy to make. Here the link the the original: http://paleomg.com/4th-of-july-triple-protein-burgers/

And here’s my version:

23rd of July burgers

Ingredients

1 to 1.5 lbs of ground beef
2 pinches of cayenne pepper
3/4 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 pkg bacon
1 avocado
1 clove of garlic, minced
Juice of 1 lime
4 leaves of romaine lettuce
A handful of spinach
2 handfuls of sliced mushrooms
Sweet potato chips (to eat on the side of your burger)

Instructions
Mix spices in well with beef and form into 4 patties
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Lay bacon in single layer in a baking dish and bake for 25 minute or until crispy then dry on paper towel
While bacon is cooking, make guacamole by smashing up avocado in a bowl with a fork, squeezing with lime juice (start with half a lime, add the other half after you taste it), mixing in one 1 clove of garlic (minced), sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder and mix well.
Taste guacamole and adjust seasonings as needed.
Next, start on your burgers: spray skillet with coconut oil spray and heat on medium-low
Add burger to hot skillet and cook for about 7 minute per side or until internal temperature reaches 155 to 165 degrees (depending on how done you want your burger)
Put burgers under foil to rest
While burgers are cooking, get your lettuce out and cut the leaves in half to creat a lettuce bun
When your burgers are done
Add mushrooms in a single layer to pan and let cook for 1 full minute without stirring them
Then stir them and turn over and repeat on other side
Season mushrooms to taste with salt, pepper, smoked paprika and garlic powder (I just sprinkled on a little of each) and let hang out in the pan until everything us done, but turn heat to low and watch them. When everything is done assemble. I put the burger on top of a piece of romaine, topped with guacamole then bacon then mushrooms and spinach and other half of romaine. Ear with fork and knife and enjoy with a side of sweet potato chips from Trader Joes 🙂
